My journey in the professional world, particularly in marketing and advertising, has taken a new step as me and my business partner have been applying and calling different local businesses in order to help grow or expand their audience. The most notable recent development is in the physiotherapy sector. I applied for a position at Absolute PhysioCare & Sports Rehab in Burnaby, BC. I leveraged Indeed as my application platform and followed up via email. It did not lead to any follow-up, so we decided to give them a call. They took down our number and name, and now we await a call in the next week or two.
Venturing into another industry, I applied to Ki Tea House Cafe Inc., also via Indeed, only to be met with nothing. Better Environmentally Sound Transportation mirrored this, rejecting my application.
These rejections are to be expected in the job hunt. Each application and each portfolio submission serves as a lesson and gets us one step closer to that anticipated ‘yes’. Although we don’t have a single client yet (only the one from my current work), it’s important to improvise and adapt to the market. Now the next steps are shifting our portfolio online and adding a free audit to incentivize an interview or in-person meeting. Therefore, I advise fellow job seekers to remain resilient, keep networking, refining portfolios, and applying.
The job market may seem daunting with its share of rejections, but at the end of the day, it’s a numbers game, and it’s about always improving. There is a lot to learn, and every opportunity is something to learn from. I hope to get a call back, and we shall see how this goes!
